So you’ve received an email notification telling you that you’ve been exposed to a sexually transmitted infection. What do you do?

This message was sent to you through the State Department of Health to notify you that a recent sexual partner has tested positive for a sexually transmitted infection.

Verify that this e-card is authentic

The first step in dealing with the message you received is to verify that it is, in fact, legitimate. You can call the State Department of Health representative listed in the message. Just report the "disease identification number" (also listed in the message) to the Health Department representative and he or she will verify the authenticity of the information and provide you with answers to any additional questions you may have.

Deciding what to do

After you’ve verified the message you’ve received, you will need to get tested to see if you have contracted an sexually transmitted infection. In order to control a potential outbreak, it is important that you take the e-card “disease identification number” with you to your doctor or to your local Health Department. This number, when verified, will provide your doctor with information he or she needs to determine which tests to perform.

Please note that, for your health and the health of the community, it is very important that you get tested as quickly as possible.
